FRESH SOUNDS, LOOPS AND TEXTURES FROM THE UK DRILL SCENE

The first sample library of its kind to lend itself to multiple genres, this self-contained toolkit offers instant inspiration. At its core is a wide range of tempo-mapped performance-based loops created from combinations of multi-layered guitar, keys, synths, sax and more, split into stems across a colour-mapped keyboard. In addition, explore drum loops and kits, deep sub-basses, old-school wavey synth pads, melodic instruments and visceral textures which can be manipulated and warped within the plug-in to create immersive atmospheres, enabling you to put your own personal spin on these sounds to facilitate your own vision.

Our first collaboration with QMF, Colours PST has roots in the UK drill scene — curated by Trinz, a drill producer with a distinctive sound and an impressive list of production credits Digga D, Plutonio, E1 (3X3). While designed for beat makers and producers creating drill, grime or hip hop tracks, its bespoke range of in-built sound-sculpting controls and effects makes it equally useful for contemporary composers looking to add a whole spectrum of fresh new sounds and textures to their TV, film or game scores.

“The name Colours PST is inspired by my sound palette…I try to create a whole spectrum of colours in my music — personal to me, but open to any genre. People listen to music for the lyrics, but personally, I listen to it for the message from the producer.”

COLOURS PST

This toolkit of 48 presets and a wide range of controls and effects allows you to write from scratch and finish a track using the plug-in alone — taking you from lo-fi, characterful sounds to high-octane atmosphere — all depending on how you use it. Whether it’s your first entry into drill music, you’re an established producer or you’re a media composer looking to expand your sound palette, this plug-in is designed to inspire. For composers, its versatility lends itself to building tension beds, adding momentum, atmosphere and emotion.

The multi-instrumental melodic loops capture the character and soul of each performance to spark ideas or set the mood, with enough controls at your fingertips to make them your own. Notated by Trinz, the full performance of the loop is presented on the lowest octave, and each of the stems have been individually split and colour-mapped by octave across the rest of the keyboard, so you can layer them up as you like and sequence a beat. Each loop has been recorded at a default of 140bpm, but can be tempo-synced to your DAW.

The Keys section offers 20 sounds, each note sampled and laid out across the whole keyboard — ranging from warm, deep floor-shaking subs and classic analog synth and electric piano sounds (from the Korg MS20, Juno 106, Rhodes and more) to the bell-like kalimba and percussive textures — offering a different perspective of sounds, textures and effects compared to the hard-hitting sounds of drill.

The Drums section includes a range of innovative, intricate drum loops written by Trinz, as well as whole drum kits, which can be manipulated and tweaked to your liking. The processed signal slider is what really shows the full range of each of these sounds and performances, starting with the dry sound and fading in various pre-programmed effects unique to each individual preset — each specially curated by Trinz and QMF engineer, Love Shodipe.

TRINZ

“When I was about 12 or 13, my parents bought me a Macbook for my birthday…. the moment I discovered Garageband, that’s the moment I became a producer. Drill music means a lot to me because I’ve grown up with it, and it’s kind of grown up with me, too – it’s changed so much.”

For over a decade, the type beats phenomenon has offered producers a path from their bedrooms to working with some of the world’s biggest artists — a route that has proved highly successful for 18-year old south-east London producer on the rise, Trinz. His journey has taken him from making beats on GarageBand and uploading them to Soundcloud, YouTube and BeatStars, to producing tracks and supplying beats for some of the biggest artists in the UK drill scene — including Digga D on his 2021 hit single Toxic, Plutónio and British-Somalian rapper Alz. His distinctive sound, which leans towards the melodic side of Drill, looks to be having an influence on the future of the scene, too, with other producers starting to emulate his style. “The placements that I get, some smaller producers might make a type beat of that song,” he explains. “I listen to it and it’s using the same instruments that I use, same sort of vibe.”
