RME sets the tone with the release of the Digiface RAVENNA

October 2022 – RME is one of the most cutting-edge audio manufacturers in audio networking solutions. They take pride in growing with their audience and creating the next generation of equipment on the market. Their dedication is clear with the release of the new Digiface RAVENNA, a device that will set the tone for what is to come.

RME and DirectOut present the new Digiface RAVENNA. This mobile audio interface is based on the proven Digiface Dante but features a RAVENNA module developed by DirectOut. The device allows the transmission of up to 128 RAVENNA channels and 64 MADI channels via a single USB 3.0 connection. RME has expanded its Digiface series with a powerful model for USB and standalone operation.

RME has continued integrating the MADI drivers from the renowned RME MADIface series for both Mac and Windows. With this release of the Digiface RAVENNA, some new offers are on the table. In addition to the 128 RAVENNA channels, there is the transmission of up to 64 MADI channels via USB 3.0. For this feature, both BNC sockets for word clock I/O can be switched to MADI I/O. The sum of 128 Ravenna and MADI channels can be easily controlled via the included RAVENNA web server and the DSP-based RME TotalMix FX mixer. This is due to its comprehensive routing and monitoring options.

A few key features that push the Digiface RAVENNA past the rest are that it has an audio-over-IP protocol that can be used in existing networks without special routers, is AES67 compatible, and enables uncompressed transmission of digital audio signals with low latency. In the professional sector, RME had to take things a step further to cover the growing popularity and presence of RAVENNA solutions. An external option was added to the compact Digiface RAVENNA USB 3.0 interface for a fully mobile operation compared to the stationary RAVENNA solutions that have been available thus far. To operate the Digiface Ravenna, users can rely on both an external power supply connector and USB bus power. To top of the incredible list of aspects, such as the USB 3.0 and RAVENNA network ports, word clock I/O connectors, and power supply connectors, the Digiface RAVENNA also provides a high-quality headphone monitoring output. If needed, this can be used as a line output to play out a stereo analog mixdown.

On the network side, the Digiface Ravenna has four freely configurable network ports that can be used multifunctionally. This can be as inputs and outputs, a network switch, or safe redundancy operation. In addition, the interface can also be used as a mobile 64-channel RAVENNA/MADI converter without a USB connection to a computer.

RME continues to lay the groundwork for audio professionals and students alike. When it comes to the mechanics of it all, the desire for reliable quality outweighs all gimmicks. This incredible addition to the RME mix will allow the artists to expand their craft without compromising on standard and productive ease. The Digiface RAVENNA is just the beginning of the next wave of innovation that RME has to offer.
