Multi-platinum engineer explains how he uses his Lauten Audio LS-208 to get great recordings in difficult spaces
Los Angeles, California, April 20, 2023— In an off-the-cuff discussion, award-winning Recording and Mix Engineer, Bainz (Young Thug, Gunna, Travis Scott, Nipsey Hustle) explains how he regularly tracks vocals in the control room using his Lauten Audio LS-208. The conversation was sparked during an in-person delivery of a third LS-208 to Bainz, which he explains was needed because, “people keep borrowing this mic and not giving it back.”
Bainz goes on to share how using the LS-208 differs from traditional dynamic solutions because of the clarity it provides while also rejecting off-axis noise in the room. That clarity and rejection allow him to put the artist first while capturing the album-quality takes he needs to make a great record. Throughout the discussion, Bainz talks about his experience working with various artists and tracking vocals with the speakers on, even going so far as to record Young Thug’s vocals on a couch while playing video games to help him disconnect without the pressure of performance. “That’s what engineering is; it’s working with imperfect situations and figuring out the best possible solutions. A lot of times, you don’t have the perfect environment, and when it is really sterile, the creativity is lost… It’s our job to make it sound good.”
