Readily residing at the heart of Cycle 5 is a refined high-stability, triangle core VCO (Voltage-Controlled Oscillator), delivering performance that rivals or surpasses larger and more expensive oscillator modules.

Moreover, Cycle 5’s standout feature is its vari-wave capability, smoothly morphing the waveform of the dedicated VARI output — from sine to triangle, saw, square, and, finally, a very narrow pulse. Pushing things further, the VARI-WAVE parameter can be CV controlled — up to audio frequencies — for some intense timbres.

There are several other useful inclusions, too, such as individual waveform outputs, a seven-position OCTAVE switch, factory PITCH tuning, dual V/OCT. (Volt-per-Octave) inputs, and a RESET input for hard sync sounds.

Saying all that, then, this unique combination of features in a small (6 HP) module makes Cycle 5 as equally at home as a modest modulation companion to big VCOs as it does taking centre stage in miniature or polyphonic systems, thereby cementing its position as a very handy addition to Joranalogue Audio Design’s existing lineup of extraordinary synth modules.
