iZotope, the industry leader in intelligent audio technology, is being recognized by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with a Scientific and Engineering Award. The award spotlights lead researcher Alexey Lukin’s work on iZotope’s RX audio processing system alongside a team of more than 70 mathematicians, software engineers, sound designers, product specialists and others.

Given for achievements that produce a definite influence on the advancement of the motion picture industry, the Scientific and Engineering Award cements RX’s status as the industry standard tool for audio repair and enhancement in modern film production. Utilizing technological advances in digital signal processing and machine learning, RX has enabled countless films and TV shows to restore damaged, noisy audio to pristine condition. Intelligent tools, powered by machine learning, are paired with an intuitive visual display that allows users to edit sound as if they were editing a picture. First introduced in 2007, iZotope RX has evolved in seven subsequent versions to be the most innovative set of audio repair and enhancement tools available.

RX has contributed to a wide range of Academy Award®-winning films for Sound Editing and Sound Mixing including WhiplashMad Max: Fury Road, and Bohemian Rhapsody, as well as Best Picture winner Birdman and a long list of top-grossing films including Black Panther and Avengers: Endgame. RX’s ability to salvage damaged audio enabled the release of Orson Welles’ final film The Other Side of the Wind while also solving everyday audio problems on major contemporary productions including “Game of Thrones” and “The Walking Dead.” Regularly honored by industry organizations such as the Cinema Audio Society (a 5-time winner for Technical Achievement), RX has transformed the art and science of sound for film.“It’s a great honor for Alexey and the team at iZotope to get this award,” comments Mark Ethier, co-founder and CEO of iZotope. “As a company our focus is to support the creative work of filmmaking by removing technical barriers in audio production, and we appreciate this recognition of our innovation in this pursuit. We are also grateful for the community of audio professionals who have supported us through the years. It’s their pursuit of the highest standards in creative storytelling that has driven our work.”
“It was 18 years ago that I first developed a few technical ideas that would later become iZotope RX,” adds Alexey Lukin, Principal DSP Engineer at iZotope. “This transformation of a hundred lines of C++ code into the industry-standard suite of tools it is today would not have been possible without our amazing relationship with audio post professionals. Hearing directly from them about their creative needs has empowered and inspired us to make impossible ways of audio editing a reality.”iZotope has also won extensive acclaim for their music production software, including Ozone for mastering, Neutron for mixing, and the Spire ecosystem of recording, production and collaboration tools. Among Spire’s most ardent fans are Pete Townshend, Trey Anastasio, Phoebe Bridgers, Paramore’s Hayley Williams and many more, while iZotope’s software has helped to shape records by Beyonce, Sia, Doja Cat, Shawn Mendes, Kendrick Lamar and others.About iZotope:

At iZotope, we’re obsessed with great sound. Our intelligent audio technology helps musicians, music producers, and audio post engineers focus on their craft rather than the tech behind it. We design award-winning software, plug-ins, hardware and mobile apps powered by the highest quality audio processing, machine learning and strikingly intuitive interfaces.
