Quote of the Day

“I just make sure that the sound that is being recorded is as close to the sound I want as possible. I don’t want to rely on the engineers to monkey around with the eq afterwards—unless it’s an effect that you’re trying to get.”- Leon Redbone

February 2011 - Terry Wollman on Miking Acoustic Guitars
Guitar recordings with miking described in the article
By Lorenz Rychner

Audio examples to go with Terry's interview in our February 2011 issue. These are short high-quality MP3 files (not all web browsers can play WAVs directly).

The "Once One Moment" file is from our Playback series of audio and data CDs from the 1990s (remember those?). Terry contributed a mix clinic back in 1995 for Playback 4, where he showed how even a simple stereo recording of a baritone guitar could be tweaked for maximum impact. Check it out!
