Took my camera to the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge here in Denver, on a recent very cold day, and when I came upon this scene, with hundreds of birds just sitting there, waiting for better days to come, the first thought that came to mind was "Just like the year 2009—strictly for the birds".

2009 had its moments, but, in truth, it could have been better, for many people and in many ways, so let's look forward to 2010 and hope this mule deer buck gets it right when he seems to sniff good things coming his way, or the Red-Tail Hawk who's on the look-out from his treetop perch.

We'll close the office and will be back in business on Monday, January 4, 2010.
