Kristian Bush Shares A Song With Our Readers!

November 19, 2013

In our November 2013 issue, we had a great interview with Kristian Bush of Sugarland. At the time, Kristian and I had bandied around the idea of his providing our readers with an exclusive look into his creative process... maybe a track at early and late stages of its development? Kristian was enthusiastic about the possibility, but we weren't able to nail anything down in time to say for certain in the magazine as it went to press.

Lost opportunity? Nope! Kristian was as good as his word, and several weeks after press time he was kind enough to send me early and late versions of a track called "So Smooth". We're thrilled to be able to offer these tracks on our website for your edification.

You'll find the two versions in 192k MP3 format, with Kristian's comments, here:

or, if you're sharing it with your friends in print, this might be easier:

Enjoy! And thank you, Kristian, for sharing your thoughts and songs with us.

Wow! This is a super good example of how songs come to life. I love the lyrics and the music...both are intriguing and emotional, and done with a lot of respect for the one who is smooth. Good demos like this one are always compelling, and it was thoughtful to give us a more finished version in a raw mix. It gives us a chance to hear in our imaginations how we might like the song to be. Thank you Kristian...What a great gift for those of us who love the community of sound.

Example of some great writing here I thought. Metaphors of the ocean, glass and earthquake.... I really love the ethereal sound of the guitars flying around the space, like aural apparitions . Great talent Kristian . Great ear.

Loved watching the spot on TCM. The "Bush Bros" were cutting an ID for TCM. He has a nice line of recording gigs ahead of him! A pro I'd love to work with! My readers tape submission ended with Marty saying, "Your stype is in the Eric Jonhson & Joe Satriani mold." " Your chops are as good as any we've heard!" I liked this!!!
