Recording Drums? How many mics do you use?

Dear Readers,

I recently had a nice phone conversation with my friend and teacher Denny Seiwell, who, some of you may remember, played drums on some of Rock's biggest recordings, including “Live and Let Die,” and the Ram album.

Yes, Denny was the first post-Beatle's drummer Sir Paul chose for his band after the Fab Four split up.

Denny told me that a website he and some other fellow session giants had been working on for a long time had finally been launched, and after browsing around it for a while, I thought it deserved a mention in this blog.

Musinq (as in Musician Inquiry) is a site dedicated to answering any questions you may have; the catch is that the people answering the questions include, for starters, Toto legend Steve Porcaro, drumming power-hitter Matt Sorum (Guns n' Roses), Alice in Chains bassist Mike Inez, Davey Johnstone (Elton John's guitarist), and Seiwell himself.

It seems like an ideal forum, and for recording musicians the site will surely provide some very valuable insights... Check it out and let me know what you think!

Talk soon!
