AVID Rolls Out Pro Tools 10

October 20, 2011

We're in NYC for the AES convention, and what may prove to be the biggest new-product presentation of the show (remains to be seen...) happened tonight, the evening before the show even opens... Talk of stealing the thunder!

We travelled throughout the day and the three of us, coming from different directions on separate flights, just made it to the event with only minutes to spare. It was held not anywhere near the Javits Convention Center but uptown at the "Jazz At Lincoln Center" venue (which is not really "at" Lincoln Center in case you ever want to attend a performance at the fabulous Dizzy's Club Coca Cola - it's in the indoor mall at 60th and Broadway).

AVID had a room to themselves and put on the most professional presentation you could wish for. On a stage with a great background formed from huge illustrated panels, the presenters had their words underlined by slides and intermittent video on a large screen—accompanied by a terrific sound system.

$299 buys you the new software Pro Tools 10 if you upgrade from Pro Tools 9, or $499 if you crossgrade from LE or MP, or $699 outright.

There is also Pro Tools HD and there are new cards for the HDX (extended systems) - details are at
