October
2006
This clip demonstrates some of the concepts discussed in the October
2006 Vocal Column on recording a cappella. It is a short excerpt
from the song “Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming”.
The voices are arranged in 4-part harmony with each part doubled
4 times; this brings the total track count to 16.
The tracks were all recorded in a bathroom with a tiled floor and
high ceilings. The microphone was placed in front of the tub enclosure,
about 3 feet in front of, and a foot above, the vocalist. Some
reverb was added after recording.
